The Board discussed spending rate for supplies for the season. Spending is on target to allocated budgeting. LAYSL will purchase medals for all kids to receive at end of spring season.
Note to board members: reminder to ask approval from BOD for any purchases over $500.
Discussions on the need for coaches as well as training opportunities online that are available and 100% reimbursable to all coaches from recreation to competitive teams. Both the USSF and United offer coaching clinics year around. The BOD encourages coaches at all levels (recreational, pre-comp and comp) to participate so they can provide age appropriate coaching to the kids. Please ask the LAYSL board for approval prior to taking the coaching course/clinic.
The recreational end of season party will be held on October 24th, Thursday from 5-6 pm. The field location is still to be determined—10/21/2019—slated for Overlook.
Discussions were had in regards to the shed on North Mesa that was broken into. Ideas were generated on securing the shed more efficiently to prevent future vandalism. We will revert back to storing the equipment in the main locker in LA until we determine a better, more secure option at N. Mesa.
*Referees are always needed and will be trained. Beginning Spring 2020, the referee MUST be certified through the USSF in order to ref in Duke City play (possibly Santa Fe Northern, as well). The competitive teams at Duke City require team referees be provided as a requirement for league play. Referees are reimbursed for all training and paid for each game. The board discussed incentives to obtain more referees. Possibilities include; mileage, reimbursement of child’s registration fees. Referee clinics will be offered in Northern New Mexico in the Spring (2020) with plans to hold one in Los Alamos (February time frame). Pre-comp and comp coaches will be encouraged to ask a team parent to participate and become a certified referee!
- Discussion on future recreational program and the YMCA kinder program. Is there a duplication of efforts? Should registration proceed after a coach is identified per number of players on a team. The fall season resulted in a high number of players to coaches (at the 3rd/4th grade level) and we would like to limit that for next season. We will have an end-of-year discussion with the recreational coaches to determine if the current format (academy style) is a productive method.
- Discussion on fields: Watanabe, Community, Western Area and Spirio show a lot of signs of gopher activity. Is it possible to engage more with the county to have these fields tended to more frequently?
- Paul will talk with the individuals at the county responsible for each of the fields to see if we can have more attention on their condition and gopher trapping.
- Discussion on budget allocations in determining a monetary reserve that is adequate for the league.
- Reach out to the new NMYSA president
**Gift certificate purchase for long time league referee that is retiring.
